Thank you for your ongoing email’s, they are just lovely to get.  I can’t say that I have made huge changes yet, but we will start with baby steps!   I currently have two young Mum’s on my caseload, both have young babies.  One Mum is 20 and she currently has a 9 week old baby boy, she also has a nearly two year old girl.  I was also working with her with the first baby, who she breastfed for six weeks.  At the time, I didn’t want to overstep the mark or sway her choices so I didn’t really say much when she gave up breastfeeding.  This time though is so different, her baby was only a  few weeks old when I finished the amazing course you provided for us.  So I have been full of enthusiasm and praise for this young girl on her breastfeeding, I am always telling her how well she is doing and all the benefits her baby is getting from the breastmilk, plus the lovely bonding time they are having…  I have given her some information to read also.  Well so far we are at 9 weeks and still going strong, FULLY breastfed, no top ups… its been fantastic, she is setting a goal so far of getting to one year… so that is a big step for her!I also have another young mum and I have been able to support her with questions and myths that she is being told all the time, like she doesn’t have enough milk.  She is constantly hearing this, so I am able to keep reassuring her YES she does, and the more she feeds the more milk she will have.  She will text me during the day if its a bad day and I just follow up with a quick phone call.  She too has been able to fully breastfed and has not given in to any formula top ups!I am sooo pleased with these two girls.  And like I say baby steps, but your course has helped me to be able to do this! Some other comments include:

The presenters were friendly, often reassuring students that we would learn from each other. The style of learning was relaxed and encouraging.

I have come away with more knowledge and improved understanding of the importance of it.

The format definitely helped with the comprehension of the training.

I am blown away with the information and resources we have been given as part of the programme.

The way in which the trainers worked together, complementing each other’s style of presentation, made for ease of understanding.

I can see myself using the resources to train others.

I especially enjoyed the discussion topics on communication, and sharing information as opposed to giving advice.

I felt valued and inspired, challenged and motivated.

Every day was informative. Group discussions were great. The facilitators role-modelled and were great at listening.

The training exceeded my expectations. I came with preconceived notions and was amazed how relaxed and culturally sensitive the facilitators were. I felt so much aroha on the first day and this continued throughout the week.

The mother-to-mother approach makes mothers feel valued.

This training, two months on, has been a solid grounding for me.

I was very impressed with the training, but more importantly with the trainers. We want to continue your good work with our people in promoting breastfeeding.

It has given me more insight into how effective mother-to-mother support can be.

I came prepared for a Pakeha presentation but found that it was done in a Maori way.
